Workshop with the children at KANCIL Sunday school
On Sunday, 19 January I went to the KANCIL (Kelompok Anak Kecil Cinta Belajar or Children Who Love to Learn) Sunday school in Senen, Central Jakarta organized by the group headed by Ibu Monica to hold a workshop with the children there. I met Anastasia who is helping in the Sunday School as a volunteer English teacher to the community school children. We met at McDonald’s (btw, I stopped eating McDonald’s and KFC since 5 months ago) a few days before that and after we talked about my project she began to try to find some schools where I can make presentation for my project.
Anastasia belongs to a community of single Christian women who are helping poor children and every Sunday they hold classes for the poor school children in the neighborhood and they try to help the children to improve themselves. After having some talk with the playful children, they began to find some words to say and they began to ask questions about traveling and trees and they also gave me nice comments about trees.
Since the classroom is an open area, it was too bright to show the pictures on the projector screen that they prepared, but we did nevertheless and I was able to show them some of the pictures I took from different countries and when planting trees with the kids. I had a lot of fun with them — they were very active and inquisitive.
Many thanks to Anastasia, Ibu Monica and the volunteer teachers, Ibu Titin, Novi and Mastika for their help.
